This piece was done as my entry for s contest. The theme of the contest was to draw either a husky, wolf, or malamute using another breed's coloring and markings. Seeing as I had plenty of refrences for wolves lying around my desk I decided to go with that as the model breed. For the markings and coloring I wanted to go with something slightly different from your common domesticated dog breeds. This search lead me to the African Wild Dog, a very interesting looking little pup. I think it came out rather well for being the only canine I've every draw since I was 13 years old.
NOTE: This was originally done in graphite and then later scanned into PS and had a color layer thrown over it to color the brown in places. So I'm going to say that since 90% of it was traditional it's being filed thusly. If I'm wrong then I'll move it later when someone corrects me.
Yeah, I like the mix. When I see it I think about some kind of prehistoric animal or something like that, it looks real but distant at the same time, I don't know if you understand what I mean...
I luv the coats of African wild dogs and this wolf looks so beautiful with that coat! The detail is great and im really glad you chose that coloring! great Piture! a favorite of mine!
I was sceptical when I first started it, but as it progressed the coloring looked much nicer on it then I thought. Thanks for the supportive comments and the fav.
